Junior Sho-Kushin Karate 3rd - 8th Grade:

CMA specializes in child behavior, development, self discipline, self control, confidence, teamwork, health and fitness, respect, and self defense. Martial arts builds self-confidence and teaches discipline which will provide a solid foundation from which your children will develop strong character. While studying the martial arts is fun, your children will be learning important lessons in values and respect that will shape how they view the world around them. And even though we teach to avoid confrontations, if the need arises, your children can be secure in their knowledge of how to defend them from physical harm. This is the power derived from the martial arts.

As a student, it is not required for your child to compete, but if your child wants to compete we have a GREAT team that can help lead your child to becoming one of the top competitors in the state, country or world! Competing in sport karate, grappling and full contact kickboxing tournaments, CMA was raising eyebrows from their very first tournament! While competing in the SC Sport Karate Circuit, CMA students won over DOZENS SC STATE TITLES in EVERY DIVISION FROM WHITE BELT TO BLACK BELT before the SC Sport Karate Circuit faded away. CMA students won STATE TITLES in: freestyle forms, traditional forms, musical forms, weapon forms, musical weapon forms, and point sparring! It only took 3 short years for Contemporary Martial Arts, Inc.(CMA) to be ranked by NBL/SKIL as one of the TOP 25 SPORT KARATE SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD, coming in at #15! The next 4 years CMA was ranked in the TOP 25 SPORT KARATE SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD as well, and the last year CMA competed in sport karate, we were ranked #12! During the short time CMA competed in sport karate, we produced well OVER A DOZEN WORLD CHAMPIONS in freestyle forms, traditional forms, musical forms, weapon forms, musical weapon forms, and point sparring.

Self-Discipline

Martial arts will help to teach children the art of self-discipline. All too often in the modern day children are accustomed to getting what they want when they want. Martial arts teach restraint and patience.

Get Active

It gets kids away from their screens and off the sofa and encourages them to be more physically active at the same time as having fun. Learning a martial art is a full body workout not only for the body but the mind as well!

Setting Goals

Having a competition or tournament that the children can aim for helps teach them to set goals in life and whether they win or not it helps them to deal with either outcome which will be beneficial in later life.

Respect

Sometimes in the modern day, children find it hard to respect authoritative figures however martial arts teaches kids to respect their instructor and each other as they learn the art.

Listening

Listening is key in martial arts as without listening to the instructor they will be unable to complete the move correctly. It teaches listening on a one-to-one basis as well as in a group and demonstrating these skills allows children to progress through the belts.

Increases self-esteem and confidence

When a child masters a new skill or move it will boost their confidence and gives them a real sense of achievement. Working their way up through the ranks also shows that hard work pays off and they have something to be confident about.

Teamwork

Often in practice classes will work in pairs to practice and learn new skills and moves. This not only teaches them to respect the other children but work together to achieve their mutual goal. They’ll soon learn that sometimes two heads are better than one!

Conflict Resolution

A common misconception of martial arts is that they promote violent behavior but in fact it is quite the opposite. Martial arts teach children peaceful, non-violent conflict resolution skills and emphasis than physical altercations must be avoided.
